Container Supply Chain Programme Tuesday 29th November / 14:00 - 15:30 SGT
The need for digitalisation in the sector has been growing steadily over recent years, and with the latest exponential increase in e-commerce consumption and transpacific trade routes, we can only assume that the number of smart ports in South East Asia will continue to grow.
New technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, 5G, cloud-based systems, blockchain, digital twins, or autonomous shipping present great potential for enabling better connectivity, enhancing interoperability, optimizing trade, and even helping to reduce carbon emissions. Nonetheless, as the industry dives farther into digitalisation, the digital gap between early adopters and the late majority grows. This poses a great challenge for an industry in need to harmonizing digital standards.
Several industry-led efforts are trying to channel all these new information exchanges into a single communication stream, yet there are significant barriers slowing down this process, such as underdeveloped digital infrastructure, the lack of a common data language, and even apprehension at a potential cybersecurity breach. Whether feared or embraced, as we enter a world of hyperconnected ports, new technologies must be integrated into existing infrastructure and operations, in a harmonized and digitally sustainable manner.
How can new digital technologies be integrated at each level of the supply chain to enhance connectivity and efficiency?
How is digitalisation driving innovation and adding value to hyperconnected ports?
Optimizing interoperability, trade, and competitiveness in the region through the implementation of harmonized digital processes
What initiatives are being implemented to accelerate the digital transformation of maritime trade?
How is digitalisation helping to monitor & reduce CO2 emissions?
