'Digital Day' Thursday 20th October / 13:00 - 14:00 GMT-5
When discussing trends in maritime & logistics, the focus tends to go to major ports in the region, however, the wide-ranging port & terminal sector in the Americas is accountable for a multiplicity of ports with specific roles to play in the supply network, both at global and regional scale. While some are betting on diversification of their cargo handling to become multi-purpose ports, others are looking to dedicate their operations to a specific type of cargo in the hope of becoming more competitive. Regardless of the strategy to pursue, today’s heterogenous shipping landscape provides each port with the potential to customize its business model and investments according to its own needs and possibilities. A question that remains unanswered, nonetheless, is whether an articulated inter-port strategy could prove more effective than single players competing against each other in an ever-changing industry.
