Container Supply Chain Programme 'Sustainability Day' Wednesday 19th October / 11:30 - 13:00 GMT-5
There is no doubt that a successful energy transition is crucial for the sector to meet the net zero carbon target by 2050, and although there are several decarbonisation initiatives taking place on a global scale, the Americas is a region that only started to fully embark in these and has still room for development. While the region’s complex and wide-ranging geography, and the uneven development of its port & terminal sector prove challenging to decarbonise its operations, that very same geographic complexity that characterizes the Americas –and especially, Latin America –can be transformed into a major asset for an effective energy transition. In fact, both Central and South America have great potential to become major producers of alternative fuels for the industry on a global scale, especially focus on hydrogen. With significant challenges ahead, the port & terminal sector in the Americas has the potential to gain a much more significant role in reducing CO2emissions for maritime and logistics.
What are the main energy transition initiatives and projects across the sector, and how can industry stakeholders participate?
What incentives can governments provide to facilitate and incentivize the energy transition in the Americas?
What are the main challenges to achieve effective decarbonisation across each stage of the supply chain?
How can Latin America become a production hub for green maritime fuels?
