Summer23 has begun with many new features, just a couple of numbers:
- 35 new routes including more than 10 new destinations never served before neither in the pre-pandemic period
- more than 100 airlines including 7 new entrants and more than 200 destinations to 70 countries thus connecting all the world's continents to Rome
North America (including Canada) will be connected to Rome with 34 direct flights/day, a record of capacity growth thanks to new destinations as San Francisco operated by ITA Airways and United Airlines, and Mexico City by Aeromexico as well as the increase on destinations historically connected to Rome: New York will see the entrance of Norse as the new player (with 11 flights/day to New York, FCO is the third hub in Europe in terms of direct connections!); Washington with the new ITA Airways direct flight from June; Toronto and Montreal will increase thanks to both Air Canada and Air Transat with up to 3 daily flights; Calgary, the only direct connection from Italy to Western Canada by WestJet with up to 5 weekly frequencies. Aerolineas Argentinas will also add capacity, operating 5 weekly flights to Buenos Aires.
Growing Asian market: in addition to Tokyo and Delhi served by ITA Airways, Rome experiences the return of the Greater China airlines with the resumption of daily flights to Beijing and Shanghai, the restoration of direct flights to Shenzhen and Wenzhou, and the simultaneous capacity increase to the already served cities of Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, and Hangzhou: Rome is connected in June with 29 weekly frequencies to the People's Republic of China and 3 times a week to Taipei as well as up to 2 times/day to Seoul thanks to the developments of Korean Air and Asiana and 5 times/week to Singapore with Singapore Airlines (capacity record on the route).
In the Middle East market, Qatar Airways will operate 18 weekly to Doha and Gulf Air with the third frequency to Manama in Bahrain.
On top of all these developments, Qantas has confirmed its non-stop flight 3 times a week, being the only direct flight between Australia and Continental Europe
Finally, Europe, with an alignment trend to pre-covid capacity by EU top Full-Service carriers and many interesting new destinations directly connected with Rome: among them Faro, Gdansk, Funchal, Memmingen, Castellon and Bastia thanks to the development of airlines such as Volotea, Vueling, Air Corsica, Wizz Air and Ryanair.
