The National Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition will be carbon neutral under a partnership with 4AIR, a Boston-based provider of aviation sustainability.
The effort makes NBAA-BACE one of the world’s largest carbon-neutral events when it meets in Las Vegas on Oct. 12-14, the organization says. NBAA has joined with 4AIR to fund a portfolio of carbon-offset credits to mitigate attendee travel to and from the convention.
4AIR verifies carbon credits through international standards, such as the American Carbon Registry, Climate Action Reserve, Verified Carbon Standard and The Gold Standard.
“We’re proud that NBAA-BACE will be one of the first and largest carbon-neutral aviation events in the world,” says Ed Bolen, NBAA’s president and CEO. “This is another demonstration of our industry’s effort to take meaningful steps to combat climate change, and it adds to what will be an exciting show that has many new elements and will highlight the latest innovations in business aviation.”
NBAA attendees may vote on the projects supported through carbon credits, such as wind energy produced in Oklahoma, a forest-management project in Massachusetts or a reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions in Florida during the production of materials used in automotive and aircraft manufacturing.
