Heidi Kühn named 2023 World Food Prize Laureate
A humanitarian and peace activist who has spent more than 25 years restoring agriculture in former conflict zones has been named the 2023 World Food Prize Laureate.
The World Food Prize Foundation will award the honor to Heidi Kühn for her model that revitalizes farmland, food security, livelihoods and resilience after devastating conflict. Kühn founded the nonprofit Roots of Peace in 1997 to replace the remnants of war with farmland. The organization also trains farmers in modern agricultural practices, from planting and harvesting to marketing through international exports.Read more
Alison Bentley wins Borlaug CAST Communication Award
The Council for Agricultural Science and Technology (CAST) 2023 Borlaug CAST Communication Award goes to Dr. Alison Bentley, director of the global wheat programme at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center. Bentley is known for her global research on wheat genetics and recognized for her proficiency in science communication. She has a passion for delivering practical applications from innovation to farmers.Read more

Aviagen Turkeys has announced two appointments to its Sales and Technical Services team. Hugo Camacho joins as senior technical service representative and Ryan Schnell joins as sales and technical service representative.
Aviagen Turkeys said Camacho brings a tremendous depth of experience to the team. Since 2016, Camacho has been providing technical support for turkey companies in South and Central America, Spain, France, and Italy.Schnell brings over 23 years of experience in turkey production to the team. Most recently, he served as a senior sales representative for Purina Animal Nutrition.Read more
Schuller hired as Low Carbon Technologies’ chief operating officer
Low Carbon Technologies (LCT), the industry-leading agricultural sustainability company and a division of Select Sires Inc., has hired Ron Schuller to focus on business leadership and marketing strategy. He will join an experienced team and help to manage the responsibilities and timelines associated with the Low Carbon Technologies USDA PVP, LCT Enrolled and the Low Carbon Technologies USDA Climate Smart Pilot Programs. Schuller will collaborate with various departments to facilitate LCT operations, including science and program development teams, beef and dairy supply chains, ProfitSOURCE and GeneNet programs, IT, marketing, communications and human resources.Read more

Compeer Financial, a Farm Credit cooperative based in the Upper Midwest, is pleased to announce the hiring of Betsy Horton as the organization’s chief financial officer and Susan Sachatello as chief marketing officer.
Betsy Horton, of Edina, Minn., fills the CFO role previously held by Jase Wagner, who was appointed as the cooperative’s CEO in January 2023. She has extensive experience in finance and leadership, having held CFO positions at S&W Seed Company and Miller Milling Company, and several leadership positions during her 20-year tenure at Cargill. She has global experience in finance, spanning public, private, and family-owned companies.Read more

Waldrop named regional sales manager for Chore-Time
Logan Waldrop has been named regional sales manager for Chore-Time, according to Kevin Alger, sales manager for the United States and Canada for the CTB Inc., business unit. In his new position, Waldrop will maximize the sales of Chore-Time products within Georgia, Alabama, Florida and Eastern Tennessee as he strives to achieve win-win situations for both the company and customer. Prior to his employment with CTB, Waldrop gained over eight years of experience in broiler technician, laboratory research, and poultry science positions at various companies throughout the state of Georgia. Cobb Names Roy Mutimer VP EMEA and Asia-Pacific
Cobb-Vantress, a leading global poultry genetics company, recently announced the appointment of Roy Mutimer to vice president of EMEA and Asia-Pacific, effective May 1.
Mutimer has over 30 years of experience in the poultry industry and began his career with the UK Veterinary Investigation Service in 1981 before joining Cobb UK Ltd. in 1995. During his tenure with Cobb, he has held roles in the United Kingdom and United States, covering laboratories, quality assurance, and animal welfare. He most recently served as managing director of Cobb’s European operations, with responsibility for production, sales, and technical services.Read more
