Scoular’s latest investment in south-central Idaho – a $20 million expansion of its feed blending facility – will serve the growing and changing needs of dairy and beef producers. The company announced that it will break ground this month on the project and is aiming toward spring 2024 completion. The company’s existing facility in Jerome provides custom feed blends for dairy and beef customers.
The expansion adds two key capabilities:
A steamflaking process, which processes corn into flakes and makes the feed more digestible for cattle. The corn is steamed, heated, then pressed into a flake.
A pellet mill to make feed pellets. Pellets are easy to transfer, handle and proportion for optimal nutrition. Feed pellets typically are used for feeding calves and beef cattle.

ADM and Believer Meats, a leading pioneer of the cultivated meat industry, announced April 12 that they have signed a non-exclusive memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on new ways to propel the development and commercialization of cultivated meat products.
“With a global population expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, ADM is working with partners across the value chain to meet food security and sustainability needs by expanding the protein ecosystem,” said Leticia Gonçalves, ADM’s president of Global Foods. “Cultivated meat represents an exciting evolution and yet another way to meet long-term food security needs — along with other traditional and novel sources of protein. Seven in 10 consumers are aware of cultivated meat, and with flexitarians representing more than half of consumers globally, there is an important opportunity to continue to expand the universe of protein choices.”
She continued, “We’re proud to work with a true innovator like Believer to explore new ingredients and solutions to propel the development of these exciting products, and excited to continue to add valuable partners as we work across the industry to meet growing demand driven by the enduring trends of food security and sustainability.”
Under the terms of the MOU, the companies intend to work together to explore a wide variety of opportunities spanning the cultivated meat production process.
Olymel's management regretfully announces the definitive closure of its hog slaughtering, cutting and deboning plant in Vallée-Jonction, in the Beauce region. The decision was necessary to stop losses in the fresh pork sector, which are jeopardizing the entire company's profitability.
The U.S. Grains Council (USGC) recently released a handbook about new and evolving high-protein corn co-products produced by the U.S. ethanol industry. It is meant to update international customers on the nutritional profiles of these products and their applications in animal feed.
USGC is proud and excited to have led the creation of the handbook, which will articulate the differences between traditional distiller’s dried grains with solubles (DDGS) and newer, higher-protein corn co-products.
"Considering the increasing popularity and usages of U.S. DDGS, plus the new high-value corn co-products now entering the market, we believe this handbook will help buyers and end users stay informed on these high-quality feed ingredients," said Kurt Shultz, USGC senior director of global strategies. “The Council has a robust catalog of information about U.S. corn co-products that will help international producers incorporate them into their animal rations.”
The high-protein handbook is a supplement to USGC’s existing series of DDGS user handbooks, which have been a resource for U.S. DDGS importers around the world since 2007.
The guide was written by Dr. Jerry Shurson, a professor of animal nutrition at the University of Minnesota. Shurson also authored all four editions of the USGC’s standard DDGS handbook, providing a consistent and digestible library of information about U.S. feed product options.
Innovasea, a global leader in technologically advanced aquatic solutions for aquaculture and fish tracking, has introduced FlowFeeder, a waterborne feeding solution that gently delivers feed to fish below the surface, minimizing pellet damage and loss that’s common with air-blown feeding systems. “FlowFeeder provides a better way to feed fish because it gets more pellets directly into the pen underwater,” said Langley Gace, senior vice president of Innovasea.
