Ka- And Ku-Band Shipsets With a focus on the super-midsize and large cabin business jet market, Viasat’s Ka- and Ku-band Global Aero Terminal 5510 shipsets provide airborne passengers with a ground-based Internet quality IFE solution—working in tandem with the satellites Viasat designs and builds.
VIASAT
Viasat’s Ka-band shipsets are future-proofed to enable functionality on Viasat’s current (and previous) generations of satellites, but also on the upcoming ViaSat-3 constellation of high-capacity satellites, affording longer on-wing life for current or future aircraft owners. In addition to uncapped speeds, Viasat supports a large number of devices that can stream content onboard, at reasonably priced service plans.
Viasat’s Ka-band, KU Advanced, and Dual Band (Ka+Ku) shipsets are currently available from the aircraft manufacturers or from Viasat’s aftermarket MRO/dealer network.

Cabin Management System Enhancement Lufthansa Technik has made its “nice” cabin management and inflight entertainment platform that much nicer, through a series of upgrades including 4K video encoding/decoding on its Ethernet network, and larger 4K displays—the largest that are currently achievable for a business jet cabin, the company says. The enhanced system includes wireless charging for mobile devices, voice control/commands, and cabin switches with haptic feedback.
LUFTHANSA TECHNIK
Lufthansa Technik is also developing an advanced system architecture to provide maximum flexibility and configurability to meet customer needs and simplify upgrades after aircraft delivery. Among the features to be available in 18 months are over-the-air software deployment, artificial intelligence-based personalized configuration, and technologies to push digital rights management (DRM) content from personal mobile devices to large embedded displays. https://marketplace.aviationweek.com/company/lufthansa-technik
Cabin Satcom Terminal With more than 1,500 tail-mount antenna systems sold for business aircraft to date, Honeywell’s Jetwave cabin satellite communications terminal remains a popular upgrade with numerous supplemental type certificates available across business and general aviation aircraft platforms.
Speed and simple operation are the key benefits of Jetwave, which Honeywell introduced in 2015. The Jetwave terminal, which connects with Inmarsat’s Global GX satellite network, enables business jet passengers and flight crews to activate the system and connect the same electronic devices they use on the ground to the onboard Wi-Fi.
HONEYWELL AEROSPACE
Jetwave goes provides data rates comparable to home and office connectivity, says Honeywell. https://marketplace.aviationweek.com/company/honeywell-aerospace-0
