And tips on how to use the document
Welcome to this latest issue of BCA, which includes the Operations Planning Guide, a feature that outlines expense categories required to fly an in-production turbine-powered corporate aircraft—from crew to navigation database to maintenance and insurance. The timing of this guide is fortuitous as new general aviation aircraft deliveries continue to trend upward. The General Aviation Manufacturers Association’s latest figures show second quarter 2021 deliveries of pistons, turboprops, business jets and helicopters increased during the first six months of 2021 as compared to the same period of 2020. Not surprisingly, total aircraft billings for the period compared to last year also increased. While overall new general aviation aircraft deliveries are accelerating, the used aircraft market is hot, too. Similar to the used car market in the U.S., it’s a sellers’ market for previously owned aircraft in good shape.
As my colleague Chris Reynolds, valuations manager at Aircraft Bluebook says in the Operations Planning Guide introduction, “Good aircraft are in such high demand that many transactions are happening off-market before they even make it to market.” NetJets is seeing an uptick in fractionals as well. “There is so much pent-up demand right now,” says Pat Gallagher, the company’s president of sales marketing and service, in the Fast 5 in this issue. These are positive signs for the industry. PS Last issue we included a photo of two dogs seated on the bottom of an air stair in the Advertisers in This Issue. Due to the popularity of that image, we kept the pet theme going in this issue. Do you have a fun photo that you could share for inclusion on this page in the next issue? We welcome your ideas.
