WESTERN JET AVIATION
Ku-Band Satcom STC
Western Jet Aviation and Collins Aerospace have completed development of the supplemental type certificate (STC) installation of the KuSAT-2000 satellite communications terminal on Gulfstream GV and G550 business jets. The KuSAT-2000 terminal enables reception of the LuxStream inflight broadband service from Collins and satellite operator SES, announced in September 2019. LuxStream connects with SES’ managed Ku-band satellite network to provide data speeds of up to 25 Mbps in the U.S. and 15 Mbps globally—enough bandwidth to support the concurrent use of multiple applications with high-definition content. It is available as part of Collins’ ARINCDirect portfolio of services.
Western Jet Aviation, based at Van Nuys Airport (VNY), California, now holds STCs from the FAA to offer KuSAT-2000 systems with LuxStream service on the Gulfstream G350, G450, GV and G550.

Composite, Three-Blade Prop
HARTZELL PROPELLER
Hartzell Propeller of Piqua, Ohio, announced FAA supplemental type certificate (STC) approval of its Navigator three-blade structural composite scimitar propeller for Beechcraft Bonanza single-engine airplanes. Available as part of Hartzell Propeller’s Top Prop program, the Navigator’s Advanced Structural Composite (ASC-II) lightweight blade technology results in an increase in true airspeed of 3-to-7 ktas, depending on the power setting. The ASC-II blades also reduce airframe vibration, resulting in a smoother flight and less pilot and passenger fatigue upon arrival.
Weighing 65 lb., with a diameter of 82 in., the Navigator consists of a monocoque structure, with carbon fiber laminates integrated into a co-molded stainless steel shank. The outboard half of the leading edge is protected from foreign object damage with an electroformed nickel-cobalt erosion shield. The STC applies to Bonanza models including most 35-C33A, E33A, E33C, F33A, F33C, S35, V35, V35A, V35B, 36 and A36 airplanes.
